La urdimbre de las fronteras: Experiencias femeninas entre la violencia y el cuidado

Abstract

This chapter summarizes and discusses the central themes and objectives of this book, explaining how the “ultra-intensity patriarchy” materializes in the everyday lives of women at the Paraná Tri-Border-Area, shaping their experiences of mobility and care. It states that the condensation of gender inequality and violence in the border areas allows to define them as spaces where patriarchy presents itself with heightened intensity. It also presents the feminist approach that frames the volume, stating the authors’ commitment in bringing the border women’s experiences into light, emphasizing the value they have for the local families and communities, and highlighting how their lives produce (and are produced) by multiple scale power dynamics. Furthermore, it introduces the ethnographic case study carried out among transborder Paraguayan women, describing its methodology and the qualitative strategies applied to approach their life history and experiences. Finally, it offers a synthesis of the content of the following chapters, inviting the readers to a travel across the gender boundaries in the Tri-border-Area.
