The political phenomenon of MORENA in Mexico is of significant interest for analysis, particularly concerning how and on what basis it constructs its identity. To achieve this, the examination delves into how MORENA distinguishes actors in its narrative, positively identifying “common people” and “the people” as part of “us,” while negatively portraying the elite and the media as “others.” We conclude that MORENA built its populist identity by highlighting the struggle between enemies and friends. The qualitative methodology and content analysis using a grounded theory approach contribute to the study’s originality in the contemporary political context.
