La traducción De rerum natura, de T. Lucrecio Caro: aspectos teóricos y prácticos

Abstract

El artículo procura reflexionar sobre la traducción como una labor cognoscitiva generadora de relaciones de transitividad entre códigos lingüísticos. Esta tarea se analizará desde una doble perspectiva: la concerniente al hecho de traducir y la de Lucrecio como transmisor del epicureísmo en lengua latina. Para ello, se presentarán consideraciones sobre la teoría de la traducción, utilizadas por los autores de este trabajo en la traducción al español de De rerum natura (2020). Asimismo, se demostrará cómo Lucrecio elaboró cadenas semióticas significativas para la tradición filosófica epicúrea y de qué manera desarrolló una teoría lingüística en la cual las palabras conforman una infraestructura según el orden de la naturaleza.

This article brings up to discussion the idea of translation as a cognitive work which creates transitivity relations among linguistic codes. This phenomenon will be analyzed from a double perspective: the act of translating and the transmission by Lucretius of Epicureanism in Latin. So several aspects of theory of translation will be presented which have been used by the authors of this paper in their new Spanish translation of De rerum natura (2020). Moreover, it will be demonstrated how Lucretius developed meaningful semiotic chains in the Epicurean tradition and a linguistic theory in which words build a structure according to Nature’s order.
