Clásicos de la Geografía Cuantitativa vigentes en los Sistemas de Información Geográfica

Abstract

La Geografía Cuantitativa es actualmente el paradigma de la Geografía que tiene mayor impacto en las ciencias y la sociedad. En el marco de esta perspectiva se encuentra el actual desarrollo de los Sistemas de Información Geográfica (SIG) como última etapa en el camino de la automatización digital. Debe destacarse que el notable avance técnico-metodológico actual cuenta con un cuerpo de conceptos centrales que generan un núcleo disciplinario de sólida permanencia. Su construcción fue realizada en el período 1953-1969 y su es de gran importancia para acceder a los fundamentos teóricos que permiten explicaciones del espacio geográfico desde el paradigma cuantitativo. Elartículo analiza contribuciones centrales de Fred K Schaefer, Waldo Tobler, William Bunge, Brian J L Berry, Peter Haggett y David Harvey, incluyendo una síntesis de Peter Gould. El estudio de los clásicos permite llegar al núcleo disciplinario que apoya el análisis espacial hasta la actualidad.

Quantitative Geography is currently the paradigm of Geography that has the greatest impact on science and society. It is in this perspective, that we find the current development of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) as the latest stage on the way to digital automation. It should be noted that the current remarkable technical-methodological advance has a body of central concepts that generate a disciplinary core of solid permanence. Its construction was carried out in the period 1953-1969 and it is of great importance to access the theoretical foundations that allow explanations of geographical space from the quantitative paradigm. The article analyses central contributions made by Fred K Schaefer, Waldo Tobler, William Bunge, Brian J L Berry, Peter Haggett and David Harvey, including a synthesis of Peter Gould. The study of the classics leads to the disciplinary core that underpins spatial analysis to the present day.
