La sociología de la educación en perspectiva histórica: orígenes de la disciplina y principales debates en el marco de las teorías del consenso y del conflicto

Abstract

El presente artículo tiene como objetivo recuperar algunas discusiones que se han planteado en el campo de la Sociología de la Educación a partir del desarrollo de distintas corrientes teóricas e ideológicas en torno al problema de la producción y reproducción de la sociedad y la contribución específica del sistema educativo a esta cuestión. En este sentido, este escrito se inicia con un breve recorrido sobre los orígenes de la sociología de la educación, recuperando el contexto histórico de surgimiento. A continuación, se abordan las teorías enmarcadas en el paradigma del consenso, particularmente, el funcionalismo y la teoría del capital humano. Luego, se recuperan brevemente los desarrollos de las teorías críticas y las implicancias de un abordaje de este tipo para el estudio de las instituciones educativas. Para finalizar, se aportan una serie de reflexiones acerca del rol del sociólogo de la educación.

The aim of this article is to review some of the discussions that have arisen in the field of the sociology of education as a result of the development of different theoretical and ideological currents around the problem of the production and reproduction of society and the specific contribution of the educational system to this issue. In this sense, this paper begins with a brief overview of the origins of the sociology of education, recovering the historical context of its emergence. Next, the theories framed within the consensus paradigm, particularly functionalism and the theory of human capital, are discussed. Then, the developments of critical theories and the implications of such an approach for the study of educational institutions are briefly reviewed. Finally, a series of reflections on the role of the sociologist of education are offered.
