Conejos, patos y catrinas: Las niñas y los niños leen y comentan libros sobre la muerte

Abstract

La muerte es un tema complejo en los libros para niños y jóvenes. Nos preguntamos: ¿Cómo leen los niños y niñas los libros sobre la muerte? El objetivo es comprender la representación que tienen los niños de la muerte a partir de diferentes libros ilustrados que abordan este tema. Proponemos una metodología articulada en dos momentos: en una primera parte analizaremos dos libros infantiles a partir de un esquema semiótico para comprender su implicancia en el sistema cultural. En una segunda parte, se revisarán experiencias realizadas en tres instituciones educativas de la ciudad de Córdoba con lectores y lectores empíricos de entre cinco y seis años. Entendemos la lectura como práctica sociocultural, materialmente vinculada a los contextos que actúan como matrices de interpretación y claves de construcción de significaciones. En los resultados observamos que cada vez que se utiliza la figura de la muerte en algún objeto cultural (en estecaso un libro ilustrado) se puede reconstruir los significados que circulan en la cultura. Contrastamos ese análisis con la lectura literaria y la transferencia de la experiencia contextual de vida de niños y niñas. La etnografía permite reconstruir la voz de niños y niñas para comprender cómo leen esos libros y contrastarlas con las prescripciones que realizan los adultos.

Death is a complex topic in books for children and young adults. We asked: How do children read books about death? The objective is to understand the representation that children have of death based on different illustrated books with this topic. We propose a methodology articulated in two moments: in the first part we will analyze two children’s books from a semiotic scheme to understand their implication in the cultural system. In the second part, we will review experiences carried out in three educational institutions in the city of Córdoba with empirical readers and readers between five and six years old. We understand reading as a sociocultural practice, materially linked to contexts; they act as interpretation matrices and keys to the construction of meanings. In the results we observed that every time the figure of death is used in a cultural object (in this case a picture book), it is possible to reconstruct the meanings that circulate in the culture. We contrast this analysis with the literary reading and the transfer of the contextual experience of children’s lives. Ethnography allows us to reconstruct the voice of children in order to understand how they read these books and to contrast them with the prescriptions made by adults.
