La diáspora china en Argentina: características generales y respuestas frente al Covid19

Abstract

En el año 2004, el entonces presidente argentino Néstor Kirchner viajó a la República Popular China. Desde entonces las relaciones entre ambos países no dejaron de fortalecerse hasta que 10 años después se firmara la relación estratégica integral. Al mismo tiempo, el mayor contingente de migrantes chinos estaba asentándose en Buenos Aires y se extendería con el tiempo por las principales ciudades argentinas. En base a un trabajo etnográfico que comencé a desarrollar en 2012, realizaré una descripción pormenorizada de diver-sos aspectos de la diáspora china en Argentina: los diferentes flujos migratorios, las razones por las cualesdeciden migrar; las actividades laborales que desarrollan en el país; las identificaciones de los migrantes y sus descendientes; las asociaciones en las que se reúnen - sus objetivos, actividades y conflictos-. Finalmente, pre-sentaré algunas de las consecuencias de la pandemia por COVID 19 en la diáspora y su organización en la búsqueda de una respuesta.

In 2004, who was then the Argentine President, Néstor Kirchner, traveled to the People's Re‐ public of China. Since then, the relations between the two countries have not stopped strengthening. Ten years later the strategic integral association was signed. At the same time, the largest contingent of Chinese migrants was settling in Buenos Aires and would eventually spread to the main Argentine cities. Based on an ethno‐ graphic work began in 2012, in this article I present a detailed description of various aspects of the Chinese diaspora in Argentina: the different migratory flows, the reasons why they decide to migrate; the labor activi‐ ties that they develop in the country; the identifications of migrants and their descendants; the associations in which they meet ‐ their goals, activities and conflicts. Finally, I will present some of the consequences of the Covid 19 pandemic on the diaspora and its organization in search of a response.
