Los libros en una librería fronteriza: el caso de la estancia jesuita de San Lucas (Jujuy, siglo XVIII)

Abstract

En este artículo se identifican los libros de la librería de una estancia jesuita ubicada en la frontera tucumana con el Chaco, que fue inventariada y rematada por la Junta Municipal de Jujuy luego de la expulsión del año 1767. Para ello se contrastan sus títulos con los nombres de los libros que figuran en inventarios post-mortem del vecindario local, el inventario de la librería del convento de San Francisco y descripciones historiográficas de bibliotecas del Tucumán en el siglo XVIII. La descripción densa que se realizó confirma la inserción jesuita en ciudades en las que no fundaron un colegio y establece el rol del objeto cultural libro en la conformación del mercantilismo mundial.

The article identifies the books in the library at a Jesuit ranch on the Tucuman-Chaco border, which was inventoried and auctioned by the Municipal Council of Jujuy after the expulsion of Jesuits in 1767. For this purpose, the titles are contrasted with the names of the books that appear in post-mortem inventories of the local neighborhood, the inventory of the library at the San Francisco convent and the historiographic descriptions of libraries of Tucumán in the 18th century. The given thick description confirms the Jesuit insertion in cities where a college was not founded, and it establishes the role of the book as cultural object within the conformation of global mercantilism.
