La polivalente recepción de Juan de Salisbury del corpus aristotélico: Una introducción

Abstract

Juan de Salisbury estudió a lo largo de más de una década con los más eminentes maestros parisinos de la primera mitad del siglo XII. Con toda justicia, pues, se lo puede considerar como el prototipo del alumno de este peculiar periodo. Sin embargo, una vez dejados atrás sus años de formación escolástica, inició su propia producción, en la cual se amalgaman lo aprendido, sus memorias más personales de su época de estudiante, y las inquietudes filosóficas y políticas propias del momento en el que escribe. Momento en el que, por otra parte, se estaba comenzando a recuperar para el mundo latinófono el resto del corpus aristotélico que el Occidente cristiano había perdido. En este trabajo, entonces, se hará una revisión de carácter introductorio de la reacción de Juan de Salisbury a la llegada de ese maestro de maestros que fue –y sigue siendo– Aristóteles en sus tres escritos de carácter filosófico: el Entheticus, el Metalogicon y el Policraticus.

John of Salisbury studied for more than a decade with the most eminent Parisian masters of the first half of the 12th century. He can be fairly considered as the prototype of the student of this particular period. However, once his years of scholastic training went by, he began his own production. There, what he had learned, his most personal memories of his scholar days, and the philosophical and political concerns of that moment are blended. A moment, on the other hand, in which the rest of the Aristotelian corpus that the Christian West had lost was beginning to recover for the Latinophone world. This paper is an introductory review of how John of Salisbury reacts in his three philosophical writings: the Entheticus, the Metalogicon, and the Polcraticus to the arrival of that master of masters who was –and keep being– Aristotle.
