Mediadores culturales y prácticas sociales en la construcción del Teatro Coliseo de Zárate, Argentina

Abstract

Entre fines del siglo xix y los primeros años del xx, la ciudad de Zárate, en la provincia de Buenos Aires, sufrió numerosas transformaciones. La mayoría de ellas podría identificarse claramente con el proceso de modernización que evidenció la sociedad argentina durante ese período. Una de las variables centrales en dicho fenómeno fue la inmigración transatlántica. Esta presencia migratoria generó la aparición de numerosas asociaciones que desempeñaron diversas funciones, una de ellas fue la de crear espacios de sociabilidad, entre ellos, teatros. En este caso, la presente investigación intenta abordar algunas de esas cuestiones a partir de dos ejes: el primero de ellos indaga sobre los hombres que decidieron construir el teatro lírico de Zárate, y el segundo profundiza en las prácticas que se llevaron a cabo para lograr esa obra y también los discursos que contribuyeron a convertirla no solo en un símbolo de la colectividad italiana, sino de la ciudad de Zárate.

Between the end of the xix century and the frst years of the xx the city of Zárate, in the province of Buenos Aires, underwent numerous transformations. Most of them could be clearly identifed with the process of modernization that the Argentine society showed during this period. One of the central variables in this phenomenon was transatlantic immigration. Tis migratory presence led to the emergence of numerous associations that performed various functions. One of them was to create spaces of sociability, among them theaters. In this case, the present investigation tries to approach some of these questions from two axes. Te frst of them inquires about the men who decided to build the lyric theater of Zárate. Second deepens in the practices that were carried out to achieve that work and also in the speeches that helped to turn it not only into a symbol of the Italian community but of the city of Zárate.
