Las novelas de Libertad Demitrópulos: Vindicación de la forma que no llega a “buen puerto”

Abstract

Este artículo desarrolla una interpretación de la apuesta estéticopolítica en la obra narrativa de Libertad Demitrópulos a partir del análisis de Río de las congojas (1981) y Un piano en Bahía Desolación (1994). Estas dos novelas refiguran contextos históricos fundacionales de la historia argentina –la colonización española a fines del siglo XVI y la consolidación del Estado-Nación a fines del siglo XIX– a través de elecciones espaciales que evocan lo derrotado por el poder colonial. La hipótesis de lectura es que la poética de la autora presenta características formales que pueden asociarse a una tradición cuyo modelo narrativo se contrapone a la épica clásica y ofrece un esquema alternativo al del relato teleológico de los vencedores (Quint).

This article develops an interpretation of Libertad Demitrópulos' aesthetic and political stakes through her narrative work, by analyzing her novels Rio de las congojas (1981) and Un piano en Bahía Desolación (1994). These two novels represent foundational historic contexts in Argentine history —the Spanish colonization by the end of the 16th century, and the consolidation of the national state by the end of the 19th cebtury— through the selection of spaces that evoke all that was defeated by the colonial power. The reading hypothesis is that the author's poetics present formal traits which could be associated with the narrative tradition that opposes the model of the classic epic, offering an alternative outline to the teleological story of the vanquishers (Quint).
