La guerra indígena en el corredor central de Chile y Argentina (siglos XVI al XIX): un enfoque desde la Arqueología Histórica

Abstract

La mayoría de los enfrentamientos bélicos que abordan antropólogos y arqueólogos no suelen ajustarse a los criterios de análisis de las guerras interestatales del siglo XIX y gran parte del XX. Esos criterios no resultan adecuados para el estudio de la guerra entre jefaturas indígenas y ejércitos estatales, ya sea de esos periodos como de momentos anteriores. El estudio de los enfrentamientos armados entre sociedades con diferente organización sociopolítica requiere de categorías de análisis diferentes, tanto de escala como de motivaciones, tácticas y estrategias. Si bien la historiografía sobre la guerra en la Araucanía es muy abundante y no resulta sencillo emprender abordajes originales, desde la perspectiva de la Arqueología histórica y la Arqueología del conflicto -que incluye el uso de datos del registro documental y el registro arqueológico-, en este trabajo se propone contribuir a la discusión sobre el carácter asimétrico de los conflictos armados que se produjeron a largo de tres siglos en la franja central de Argentina y Chile.

Most of the military confrontations that anthropologists and archaeologists studies do not usually adjusted to the analysis criteria the interstate wars of nineteenth century and much of the twentieth. These criteria are not suitable for the study of the war between indigenous chiefdoms and state armies, either from those periods or from previous times. The study of armed confrontations between societies with different socio-political organization requires different categories of analysis, both in scale and in motivations, tactics and strategies. Although the historiography on the war in Araucanía is very abundant and it is not easy to undertake original approaches, from the perspective of Historical Archeology and the Conflict´s Archaeology -which includes the use of data from documentary and archaeological records-, in this paper it is proposed contribute to discussion about the asymmetric character applied to armed conflicts that happened in the central strip of Argentina and Chile over three centuries.polarization as a local expression of the Latin American Cold War.
