El arte de la coreografía: profesionalización y promoción de las danzas en la Guía Quincenal de la Actividad Artística e Intelectual Argentina (1947-1950)

Abstract

La Guía quincenal de la actividad artística e intelectual argentina, un boletín y revista cultural perteneciente a la Comisión Nacional de Cultura (1933-1954), que se publicó entre 1947 y 1950, se proponía difundir y fomentar la actividad artística de la Argentina como parte de una planificación cultural más amplia. El artículo analiza la sección de la Guía quincenal… dedicada específicamente a la práctica de las danzas, titulada “Coreografía”. En una primera parte, nos dedicamos a describir la publicación y su inclusión de las danzas, para luego, concentrarnos en el análisis de la noción de ‘coreografía’ en este contexto. Sostenemos que la elección de la misma, por parte de la Comisión y de la Guía quincenal..., para referirse a la práctica de las danzas, remite a dos cuestiones: por un lado, ayudaba a jerarquizar el arte de la danza, aún incipiente en nuestro país, y muy heterogéneo; y por el otro, refería a la voluntad de ponderar la labor artística específica y a sus trabajadores.

The Guía quincenal de la actividad artística e intelectual argentina (Biweekly Guide of the Argentine Artistic and Intellectual Activity) was a bulletin and cultural magazine published from 1947 to 1950, by the Comisión Nacional de Cultura (Nation al Committee of Culture) (1933-1954). It aimed to promote and promulgate Argentine artistic activity as part of a larger national cultural planning. This article focuses on the Guide section dedicated to dance, named “Choreography.” The first part of the article describes and analyzes the publication and its inclusion of dance, and then, we study the notion of ‘choreography’ in this context. The hypothesis argues that the choice of the concept of choreography, by the Committee and the Guide, to refer to the dance practice, is related to two issues: on the one hand, it helped to establish the art of dance, which was still incipient in Argentina, and very heterogeneous; and on the other hand, it referred to the will to praise the specific artistic labor required to do this art, and its workers.
