Emancipatory Imagination: Decolonization of Affections

Abstract

Los deseos y los afectos del cuerpo que descalzan los parámetros sociales que buscan regularlos, forman parte de historias insumisas que, más allá de las amenazas del castigo, integran la experiencia humana. Existen aun cuando la amenaza del infierno pende, desde los libros sagrados, sobre la vida de los disidentes. Contra las normas se expresan individuos y comunidades insubordinadas que afirman deseos que fisuran los marcos de lo que se regula como los afectos correctos y normados de los cuerpos. Las instalaciones, fotografías y videos que Carlos Motta realiza, especialmente desde 2013, abordan con profundidad tales configuraciones para lanzarse a la imaginación de un pensamiento utópico sobre la sexualidad, en el que las barreras y los tabúes desaparezcan. Este capítulo aborda la obra del artista colombiano Carlos Motta desde una perspectiva decolonial y desde la teoría de los afectos.

The desires and affections of the body that lay bare the social parameters that seek to regulate them are part of rebellious histories that, beyond the threats of punishment, constitute human experience. They exist, even when the menace of hell from the sacred books looms over the lives of the dissidents. Insubordinate individuals and communities express themselves against the rules, affirming desires that rupture the frameworks that have been determined as the correct and normative affections of bodies.
