Prensa, cartas y mujeres: mensajes en el espacio público. Intercambio epistolar en las secciones femeninas del diario La Capital (Rosario, Argentina, 1919-1939)

Abstract

El presente artículo se centra en los entrecruzamientos entre prensa y mujeres en el periodo de entreguerras. La fuente utilizada es el periódico La Capital, de la ciudad de Rosario, Argentina. A partir de los mensajes que aparecen en la prensa se analiza, por un lado, la recurrencia del formato epistolar para presentar contenido considerado femenino y, por el otro, los sentidos pedagógicos y morales contenidos en los discursos que circulaban en el espacio público sobre ―y hacia― las mujeres. Este análisis nos permite sostener nuestra hipótesis central: la prensa femenina permitió a las mujeres participar en el espacio público a través del formato epistolar, sin embargo, simultáneamente utilizó el mismo formato para reforzar el ideal de mujer doméstica, madre y esposa, y sancionar a quienes no se ajustaban a él.

This paper refers to the close relationship between women and the press during the interwar period. In this case, the source used is the newspaper La Capital, from Rosario, Argentina. Considering the messages appearing in the newspaper, the recurrent epistolary format related to female matters is analyzed as well as moral and educational ones concerning women in the public space. The present analysis strengthens the central hypothesis: the female press and its use of epistolary format allowed women to participate in the public sphere. But at the same time, it reinforced the view of women as housewives, others, and wives, punishing those who did not follow this trend.
