La "ciudad genérica" en el sur del conurbano bonaerense: El caso de Lanús

Abstract

El trabajo examina algunos aspectos de la forma urbana que cubre la mayor superficie del primer cordón del conurbano bonaerense. La ciudad genérica que actúa como soporte espacial de la vida urbana predominante en algunos de los municipios más consolidados del sur metropolitano, como Lanús, nuestro principal caso de estudio. En la primera parte del artículo se presenta el proceso histórico de conformación de este tipo de ciudad y su caracterización como un modo de "urbanización intersticial". Luego se examinan sus rasgos distintivos y principales procesos de cambio a través del análisis de algunas áreas centrales y las políticas públicas o instrumentos urbanísticos vigentes. Las conclusiones hacen hincapié en las potencialidades del tejido mixto de la ciudad genérica así como en los principales temas-problema a abordar desde un planeamiento atento a sus particularidades y procesos de transformación urbana.

The paper examines some key aspects of the urban form that covers most of the first ring of the Metropolitan Region of Buenos Aires. The generic city works as the spatial support of the predominant urban life in some of the most consolidated municipalities in the south of the metropolitan region, such as Lanus, our main case study. The first part of the article presents the historical process of formation of this type of city and its characterization as a form of “interstitial urbanization”. Then, its distinctive features and the main transformation processes typical to this form of urban fabric are examined through the analysis of some central areas sampled and the public policies and urban instruments currently applied. The conclusions emphasize the potentiality of the generic-city’s mixed urban fabric, as well as those issues and questions that we deem are relevant to tackle from a planning approach attentive to the particularities of the urban fabric and its transformation processes.
