The “habit” makes the female teacher…, is an article located on an intersection point between cultural history and women´s history, which historicizes the esthetical interventions that ruled argentine teachers´ appearance, during a particular period: 1939-1943. We will focus on the advance of the thirties, when we can find three aspects that marked tonality of the time: certain tensions inside the normalist project; new strategies for the treatment of social issues, raised by the state; and the advent of the consumer society. In this context, we will study how publishing market, while it became a consumption space stimulating new consumptions, shaped the teacher´s appearance with prescriptive force. In this way, we give meaning to this problem attending the advertising speech from two magazines: La Obra and Damas y damitas.
