"Nos habíamos perdido... y había que volver a armar una masa crítica": La revista Alternativa Latinoamericana (1985-1990) y sus redes intelectuales

Abstract

Con el final de la dictadura de 1976-1983, una de las principales tareas de la militancia popular en la Argentina fue la reconstrucción de las redes intelectuales. Este fue el origen de la revista Alternativa Latinoamericana. Pensada tanto como portavoz del Movimiento Ecuménico (ME) y como eje de un movimiento social más amplio, al cual pudieran agregarse no sólo los sectores cristiano-liberacionistas, sino también aquellos que compartieran su mirada latinoamericanista. Los temas de Alternativa se correspondieron con los distintos planes de acción que el ME trazaba en la década del ?80: en primer plano, la identidad latinoamericana; los aportes de los nuevos estudios en comunicación y cultura y la crítica ideológica de la religión a través de la teología de la liberación; los debates sobre los principios de la educación popular y el relevamiento de sus experiencias de trabajo. En este artículo, analizamos la trayectoria de los intelectuales-militantes que encararon esta tarea, sus objetivos y expectativas, su metodología de trabajo y las formas en las que hicieron circular sus ideas. Finalmente, proponemos algunos criterios para el abordaje de Alternativa Latinoamericana y una reflexión sobre el significado de las revistas político-culturales para una Historia de las Ideas de los Movimientos Sociales.

The end of the 1976-1983 dictatorship in Argentina set the reconstruction of intellectual and thought networks as one of the main tasks of popular militancy. Out of this came the Alternativa Latinoamericana magazine. It was thought same as speaker for the Latin American Ecumenical Movement (LAEM) and as the axis of a broader social movement, to which not only the Christian-liberationist sectors could be added, but also those who shared their view. The subjects of Alternativa corresponded with the main discussions and action plans of the LAEM in the 1980s: in the foreground the reflection on Latin American culture and identity; the contributions of new studies in communication and culture and the ideological critique of religion through liberation theology; the principles of freirean popular education and the survey of their concrete work experiences. We analyze in this paper the trajectory of the group of intellectuals who faced this task, their objectives and expectations, their work methodology and the ways in which they circulated their ideas. Finally, we propose some criteria for an approach to Alternativa Latinoamericana and a reflection on the meaning of political-cultural journals for a History of the Ideas of Social Movements.
