De la Nueva Ola a la Contestación: Memoria e Historia de la música joven argentina entre 1963 y 1973

Abstract

Entre 1963 y 1973, la música joven en la Argentina cambió de un modo radical, creando así las bases de una cultura rock de sesgo contestatario que se prolongaría a lo largo de la dictadura militar de 1976-1983 y más allá también. ¿En qué proporciones dicho pasaje estuvo influenciado por la revolución artística liderada por Los Beatles y por la necesidad de desahogo crítico frente a políticas autoritarias y represivas que marcaron la historia argentina moderna? Suponiendo que la música de Luis Alberto Spinetta, Litto Nebbia y otros pioneros haya tenido poco que ver con el pop edulcorado de los primeros 60, ¿de dónde salieron entonces los verdaderos creadores del rock argentino? ¿Simplemente fue todo consecuencia de la recepción argentina de Sargeant Pepper ´s… de Los Beatles? Sin respuestas concluyentes, intentamos aquí esbozar los puntos de articulación histórico-culturales que sentaron las bases del constructo rock argentino, entre la memoria social y el territorio siempre más complejo y conflictivo de la historia.

During 1963-1973 adolescent pop music suffered structural changes in Argentina. Those ten years set the foundation for the ‘protest’ movement that reflected the youth disquiet, and made possible an enduring Argentine rock culture that lasted long after the last dictatorship ended in 1983. Rock culture in Argentina was influenced by The Beatles’ artistic revolution. But we will also study in what scale the impact of social injustice became a cultural outcry against the authoritarian and repressive institutions. Luis Alberto Spinetta, Litto Nebbia and other pioneers of rock in Argentina were certainly a far cry from the frivolity of early sixties pop compositions, so it’s fair to ask which musicians were their greatest influence..The omnipresent influence of “Sgt. Pepper” does not allow us to offer a conclusive answer. It’s an attempt to articulate the historic and cultural points that created the construct “Argentine rock”, overcoming a nostalgic approach and delving deeper in the problematic field of History.
