The bovine reproductive system is constituted by a pair of ovaries and oviducts, the uterus bicorn, vagina, vestibulum, vulva and associated glands. Its function is the production of oocytes, hormones, and the vehiculization of gametes and provide a good environment for fertilization, the embryonic development and the growth of the fetus until the birth. The uterus, cervix and vagina are of particular importance because the modifications in their structures by the hormonal influences during the estrous cycle. In addition, they constitute the route of entrance of the sperm, the place of implantation of the embryo and the birth channel. They are exposed to external environmental modifications, being the entrance for pathogenic and potentially pathogenic microorganisms that would produce infections that interfere with the normal function of the reproductive system and causing infertility.
