Mujeres y cooperativismo agrario en la economía algodonera Argentina (1934-1960)

Abstract

Situada en el Nordeste Argentino, la actual provincia de Chaco encabezará históricamente la producción de algodón. Su siembra y recolección contribuyen al afincamiento de colonos —migrantes internos y externos— que llegan para instalarse con sus familias en las chacras, tentados por la rentabilidad de este cultivo promocionada desde los organismos estatales. El cooperativismo algodonero garantizaría a los colonos la comercialización conjunta de la producción, almacenes para superar el aislamiento de las colonias, semillas, seguros agrícolas y, en algunos casos, también les ofrecería el desmotado. Este estudio histórico examina la participación femenina en el cooperativismo algodonero del agro chaqueño a mediados del siglo XX. Procura avanzar sobre el conocimiento de la inserción de las mujeres en la Unión de Cooperativas Agrícolas Algodoneras, institución de segundo grado, que concentra y defiende —desde 1934— los intereses de los sectores medios del agro regional. A partir del cotejo de fuentes diversas (periódicos, informes, fotografías) se revelan coincidencias y discrepancias entre doctrina y prácticas cooperativas desde una perspectiva de género.

Located in the north-east of Argentina, the current province of Chaco has historically lead cotton production. Its sowing and harvesting contributed to the settlement of colonists — internal and external migrants — who come to settle with their families in the farms, tempted by the profitability of this crop promoted from state agencies. The cotton cooperativism would guarantee the colonists the joint commercialization of the production, warehouses to surpass the isolation of the colonies, seeds, agricultural insurance and, in some cases, also would offer the ginning. This historical study aims to critically analyze the female participation in the cotton cooperativism in the province of Chaco in the middle of the 20th century. It intends to advance in the knowledge of the insertion of women in the Unión de Cooperativas Agrícolas Algodoneras, institution of second degree, that concentrates and defends — since 1934 — the interests of the middle sectors of this regional agriculture. From the comparison of diverse sources (newspapers, reports, photographs), coincidences and discrepancies between doctrine and cooperative practices are revealed from a gender perspective.
