The aim of this paper is to present an intervention model for teaching reading and writing through the analysis of various aspects or dimensions that need to be attended to when youth and adult literacy is addressed. Social, psychological, emotional, linguistic, cognitive and pedagogical dimensions will be considered. In order to develop a literacy proposal based on current scientific and systematic studies the following sources will be considered; results from a recently developed research for María Elena Benítez, that focused its analysis on the above dimensions as well as input from an adult literacy pilot study conducted as part of this research project. The above mentioned contributions are articulated, as well, with other studies that address the problem of illiteracy to ensure greater efficacy in young and adult literacy, groups that have been historically neglected when considered as subjects of educational policies.
