Al sur de la frontera. Las escuelas en la Patagonia a fines del siglo XIX

Abstract

El presente artículo describe la situación de la educación en el territorio patagónico argentino afines del siglo XIX. En este periodo el Estado no había logrado aún imponer su propuestapedagógica en la totalidad del territorio nacional. Esto se debió, por una parte, a los límitespresupuestarios destinados a esta área; por otra, a la dificultad geográfica propia del territorio. Estaausencia permitió el florecimiento de ofertas contra hegemónicas. Prosperaron así escuelas decomunidades inmigrantes, como las galenses en el Chubut, o aquellas de orientación religiosa, talescomo las escuelas salesianas. Analizaremos el porqué de estos afloramientos así como los intentos ylos problemas que afrontó el Estado nacional en pos de imponer su propuesta en estos territorios.

This article describes the situation of education in the Argentine Patagonian territory in the late nineteenth century. In this period the State had not yet imposed its pedagogical project in the entire country. This was due, firstly, to the budgetary limits for this area, and secondly, to the difficulty of the country’s geography. This state absence allowed the flourishing of counter-hegemonic educational offerings. Schools promoted by immigrant communities, such as galenses in Chubut, or those of religious orientation, such as Salesian schools, flourished. Here we analyze why these schools proliferated, as well as the attempts and problems faced by the National State in order to impose its pedagogical proposal in these territories.
