Usos del suelo y barreras urbanas: Los terrenos ferroviarios de Victoria, Provincia de Buenos Aires

Abstract

Los terrenos (hoy vacantes) adyacentes a la estación Victoria, San Fernando, provincia de Buenos Aires, fueron funcionales a la extensión de la red ferroviaria nacional. La misma trama urbana de la localidad de Victoria nació a partir de la estación y los talleres. Sin embargo, hoy funcionan como barrera urbana, habiéndose mantenido relativamente ajenas a la incidencia tanto de la planificación estatal como del mercado inmobiliario durante décadas. El ferrocarril y sus espacios adyacentes poseen una importancia disímil según las estructuras socioeconómicas correspondientes a estos dos tiempos históricos (fines de siglo XIX y comienzos siglo XXI); este proceso de reconfiguración se expresa de manera categórica en Victoria. Abordamos este estudio de caso a través del análisis de imágenes satelitales y trabajo de campo (visitas al lugar y realización de entrevistas).

The vacant terrains adjacent to Mitre railway line´s Victoria station (located in San Fernando, Buenos Aires) were once functional to the extension of the national rail network. The urban fabric of Victoria city was born from the station and its railway workshops. Today, however, these spaces are represented as a urban barrier, having been relatively unaffected by the incidence of both state planning and the real estate market for decades. The railroad and its adjacent areas have a dissimilar importance when comparing the socioeconomic structures corresponding to these two historical times (late nineteenth and early twenty-first century); this reconfiguration process is clearly expressed in Victoria. We approached to this case study through the analysis of satellite images and in-situ fieldwork.
