La huelga azucarera de 1923 en Tucumán: Trabajadores, política y demanda de derechos

Abstract

La huelga azucarera de 1923 es uno de los acontecimientos más estudiados de la historia del mundo del trabajo de la provincia de Tucumán. La mayoría de las interpretaciones ahondan en la cuestión política. Sin embargo, resulta muy difícil pensar una huelga sólo como el resultado de la manipulación de un gobernador enfrentado a los industriales. Por eso prefiero recorrer un camino distinto para encontrar un resultado más alentador, preguntándome por la subjetividad y la agencia de los propios trabajadores. En este artículo nos detendremos entonces en el análisis de este conflicto laboral y político para, a partir de ahí, intentar pensar, por un lado, las dificultades de la construcción de políticas laborales en el área rural. Y, por otro, las formas en las que los trabajadores del azúcar articularon vínculos políticos y cómo construyeron su demanda de derechos.

The sugar strike of 1923 is one of the most studied events in the history of the working class of Tucumán, a province of the north of the Argentina. Most interpretations delve into the political question. However, I find it very difficult to think of a strike only as the result of a conflict between a governor and the owners of the mills. That is why I prefer to search a different way to find a more encouraging result, starting with the question of subjectivity and the agency of the workers themselves. In this article we will emphasize the analysis of this conflict of a labor and political nature, to try to think on the one hand, the difficulties of the construction of labor policies in the rural area. And, on the other, the ways in which sugar workers articulated political ties and how they built their demand for rights.
