Inflexiones en estructuras del sector norte de la faja plegada y corrida de Ñirihuau, provincia de Río Negro

Abstract

El objetivo del presente estudio es determinar el origen de unas particulares inflexiones observadas en las estructuras ubicadas en el sector norte de la faja plegada y corrida neógena de Ñirihuau, la cual involucró en su deformación parte del relleno volcano - sedimentario de la cuenca oligo-miocena de Ñirihuau. Las estructuras compresivas del área presentan vergencia hacia el este y poseen un rumbo NNO. Se observa un arreglo subparalelo de pliegues asimétricos de variada longitud de onda, fallas inversas y retrocorrimientos. En la zona de estudio, las estructuras sufren inflexiones de dos tipos. Por un lado, hacia el norte las fallas y pliegues tuercen su rumbo de NNO a NO. En segundo lugar, las capas terciarias plegadas sufren cambios o inflexiones en el rumbo general de los estratos, las cuales coinciden con lineamientos de rumbo NE. Como ya fuera notado en anteriores estudios, el rumbo de las estructuras y los lineamientos es similar al de estructuras presentes en basamento cristalino de la región. Estas anisotropías previas habrían controlado tanto las estructuras extensionales, durante la apertura de la cuenca de Ñirihuau en el Oligoceno, como las compresivas, durante el desarrollo de la faja plegada y corrida de Ñirihuau en el Neógeno.

The goal of this work is to determinate the origin of some interesting flections that affect the geological structures located in the Northern sector of the Neogene Ñirihuau fold and thrust belt, where part of the Oligo-Miocene Ñirihuau basin infill was deformed during Miocene times. Structures present a general NNW strike, and are affected by two kinds of inflections. In one hand, faults and folds change their strike towards the north from NNW to NW. On the other hand, Tertiary strata suffer a change in orientation that coincides with NE striking lineaments. As has been previously noted, the strike of structures and lineaments is similar to the orientation of structures present in the crystalline basement of the region. These previous anisotropies would have controlled the orientation of extensional structures during the opening of the Ñirihuau basin in the Oligocene, as well as the location of faults which accommodated shortening in the Neogene, during the basin closure.
