Descripción preliminar de la velocidad y dirección del viento medio mensual en Trelew

Abstract

En el presente trabajo se detallan las características de la velocidad y dirección del viento observado a 10 m en la estación meteorológica de Trelew Aero, provincia de Chubut, Argentina, durante el período 1997-2014. Para realizar este estudio se analizó profundamente y se documentó la calidad de la información, se describió la variabilidad diaria, estacional y anual de las observaciones de velocidad y dirección del viento. También se examinó el comportamiento de valores extremos (velocidades intensas y calmas). El estudio del control de calidad de los datos indicó que en la estación se realizó un cambio de instrumental en dos ocasiones y que en 2009 los instrumentos presentaron mal funcionamiento, y un estudio de homogeneidad de diferentes propiedades estadísticas indicó tres períodos de estudio. Para cada uno de ellos se calcularon los valores medios de velocidad horarios, diarios, mensuales y anuales. Se evaluaron las distribuciones de frecuencias de velocidad y su correspondiente ajuste a la función Weibull, la frecuencia de ocurrencia de calmas y finalmente, las distribuciones de frecuencias de direcciones a través de una rosa de vientos. Los resultados indicaron una disminución de la velocidad media anual del viento a lo largo de los períodos y en especial una marcada reducción de vientos extremos tanto velocidades altas como calmas. Además, si bien los vientos del oeste son los más frecuentes durante todo el año, no representan las velocidades medias más intensas y a nivel estacional se observó un cambio en la dirección de dichas velocidades mostrando una rotación al norte en el último período.

In this paper we analyze and discuss the characteristics of the wind datasets made at standard 10 m height in the meteorological station of Trelew Aero in Chubut, Argentina between 1997 and 2014. Our study was focused on analyzing and documenting the quality of the data, we described the daily, seasonal and annual variability of the observational data of speed and wind direction. We also examined the behavior of extreme values (intense velocities and calms). The quality control of the data indicated that the instrument was changed twice in the station and in 2009 showed malfunctioning and a homogeneity study of different statistical properties indicated three periods of data sets. For each of them, we calculated the hourly, daily, monthly and annual mean values. We evaluated the distributions of velocity frequencies and their corresponding adjustment to the Weibull function, the calms events and finally, the frequency distributions of direction through a wind rose. As a result, we found a decrease in the mean annual wind speed between periods and a reduction of extreme winds, both higher and lower values. Besides, although westerly winds are the most frequent throughout the year, they do not represent the most intense wind speed. Finally, we found that the most intense winds are rotating to north in the last period.
