Guerra, Arqueología y campos de batalla. Los casos de Cepeda (1859) y La Verde (1874), Provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina

Abstract

La guerra, actividad queatraviesa el devenir de las sociedades humanas, es una práctica cuyo estudiodesde las ciencias sociales ha sido relativamente acotado. En este trabajo sepresentará una breve introducción a la perspectiva antropológica-arqueológicaen torno al fenómeno, ejemplificándolo con dos casos de estudio enmarcados enla Arqueología histórica: las batallas de Cepeda (1859) y La Verde (1874).Ambos eventos ocurrieron en el territorio de la actual provincia de BuenosAires y fueron estudiadas, durante varios años, por dos equipos deinvestigación especializados en la temática. Las investigaciones desarrolladasen este tipo de sitios constituyen un medio de interés para analizar lamaterialidad y espacialidad de la guerra, las estrategias implementadas por losdiferentes actores involucrados en los enfrentamientos e incluso los conflictosactuales en el campo de la memoria y monumentalidad asociadas al patrimoniohistórico local y regional.

War, a ubiquitous activity in the history of human societies, is a practice whose study has been limited in the realm of the social sciences until recently. In this paper we present a brief theoretical introduction to the anthropologicalarchaeological approach for the analysis of this human phenomenon, using two case studies as examples: the battles of Cepeda (1859) and La Verde (1874). Both events took place within the territory of Buenos Aires Province, and both of them have been studied for many years by specialized research teams. The investigations carried out in this type of sites constitute a significant avenue of research for the analysis of the materiality and spatiality of warfare, the tactics and strategies implemented by the different actors involved in the fighting, as well as the current conflicts arising from the commemoration and memorialization of the battles through the construction of monuments, something that links the battlefields with local and regional heritage issues
