Orígenes de la carrera de Geología en la Universidad Nacional de San Juan

Abstract

Los orígenes de la carrera de Geología en la Universidad Nacional de San Juan, se remontan a la creación del Departamento de Ciencias Naturales de la Facultad de Ingeniería y Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales de la Universidad Nacional de Cuyo. El principal impulsor de la creación, que se concretó el 8 de marzo de 1968, fue el Dr. Emiliano Pedro Aparicio. Desde sus inicios la carrera ha tenido un perfil de geólogo que, sin descuidar la base teórica, ha estado orientado a la aplicación práctica. En 1973 se creó la Universidad Nacional de San Juan y en 1975 la Facultad de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales se separó de la Facultad de Ingeniería y comenzó su historia independiente, siendo por entonces Geología la única carrera existente en la misma. El primer egresado se graduó en 1975. En la actualidad, la Licenciatura en Ciencias Geológicas cuenta con un total de 380 alumnos inscriptos y una planta propia de 70 docentes. La actividad de campo es un aspecto fundamental en la formación del geólogo egresado de la UNSJ cuya principal salida laboral es la actividad minera en la que ha realizado aportes trascendentes.

The origins of Geology at the National University of San Juan go back to the creation of the Department of Natural Sciences at the Faculty of Engineering and Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences of the National University of Cuyo. Dr. Emiliano Pedro Aparicio was the driving force behind the creation, which was completed on March 8th 1968. Since its inception, the career has had a practical profile without neglecting the theoretical basis. In 1973, the National University of San Juan was created and in 1975 the Faculty of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences was separated from the Faculty of Engineering and began its independent history, being Geology the only existing career. The first student graduated in 1975. At present, the Department of Geology has a total of 380 enrolled students and a teaching staff of 70 people. Field activities are fundamental in the formation of the UNSJ geologists whose main occupational field is the mining industry to which they have made significant contributions.
