Cuarenta años de investigaciones: datos espaciales, arqueología y SIG en el Valle de Ambato (Provincia de Catamarca, Argentina)

Abstract

El Proyecto Arqueológico Ambato realizó durante 40 años, investigaciones en el Valle de Ambato produciendo un gran registro de datos e información, a través de prospecciones y excavaciones. La información obtenida se caracterizó por su gran variedad en cuanto a técnicas de registro utilizadas, que reflejan las variaciones en la teoría y la práctica arqueológica. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo integrar la información espacial producida por el proyecto Ambato, en un SIG (Sistema de Información Geográfica) allanando el acceso a la información, partiendo de una base que reúna todos los datos espaciales, delas diferentes épocas de la investigación, con sus distintas metodologías, para llegar a obtener un atlas arqueológico. También pudimos observar y valorar, en las variaciones de la teoría y la práctica arqueológica, la importancia de la construcción del pensamiento científico a lo largo del tiempo.

The Ambato Archaeological Project carried out research for 40 years in the Ambato Valley, producing a large data and information registry, through prospections and excavations. The information obtained was characterized by its great variety in terms of registration techniques used, which reflect the variations in archaeological theory and practice. The objective of this work is to integrate the spatial information produced by the Ambato project, into a GIS (Geographic Information System) smoothing the access to information, based on a database that gathers all the spatial data of the different periods of the investigation, with its different methodologies, to obtain an archaeological atlas. We were also able to observe and value, in the variations of archaeological theory and practice, the importance of the construction of scientific thought, over time.
