Vialidad Incaica en la Provincia de Catamarca (Noroeste Argentino)

Abstract

A través de la arqueología y la etnohistoria se puede observar la importancia que han tenido los caminos como un elemento integrador del Tawantinsuyu. En este trabajo se analizará la red vial diseñada sobre un sector del Kollasuyu correspondiente al territorio de la provincia de Catamarca, Noroeste argentino (NOA). Se incluyen, también, las continuidades longitudinales y transversales de los caminos que trascienden dicha provincia. Para ello ha sido necesario caracterizar los distintos ambientes que vinculan sus trazas para poder comprender su importancia infraestructural dentro del paisaje catamarqueño. Los nuevos datos han sido integrados a aquéllos correspondientes a investigaciones precedentes, conformando de esta manera una red general para este sector del NOA.

Through archaeology and ethnohistory it is possible to observe the role occupied by the roads as an integrating element of Tawantinsuyu. In this paper we analyze the road network designed in a Kollasuyu sector for the territory of the Province of Catamarca, northwest Argentina (NOA). Are also included the continuities of longitudinal and transversal roads, crossing the province. To do this it has been necessary first to characterize the different environments linking their traces, in order to understand its importance within the landscape infrastructure of Catamarca. The new data have been integrated into those corresponding to previous research, conforming an integrated system for this sector of NOA.
