Design d'interfaces : du dialogue homme-machine au support médiatique

Abstract

Cet article met en parallèle des approches instrumentales du design d’interfaces et des approches par les théories de la communication, afin de revisiter les contributions des secondes aux premières et d’introduire brièvement un modèle qui serait capable de les concilier. Il le fait à partir d’une revue chronologique des différents modèles de l’interface, en présentant des auteurs qui illustrent des perspectives dominantes ou l’adoption de nouveaux paradigmes. Les approches computationnelle, dialogique et instrumentale sont introduites en premier lieu pour expliquer le passage d’un usager-machine qui traite l’information à un usager qui intervient dans le monde par le biais de l’artefact informatique. L’évolution des abords communicationnels est ensuite retracée en évoquant les modèles taxonomiques, l’Ingénierie Sémiotique, la proposition d’interaction et l’interface comme support médiatique. Le papier se termine par une proposition d’intégration de l’aspect pragmatique des théories instrumentales dans le point de vue communicationnel.

This paper draws a parallel between instrumental approaches of interface design and communicative approaches, in order to revisit the contributions of the latter to the former and to introduce briefly a model which would be able to reconcile them. It does this through a chronological review of different models of the interface, presenting authors who illustrate dominant perspectives as well as new paradigms. Computational, dialogical and instrumental approaches are introduced first to explain the passage of a user-processor that treats information to a user who intervenes in the world through computer artifacts. The evolution of communicative approaches is then retraced by evoking taxonomic models, Semiotic Engineering, the interaction proposal and the interface as media support. The paper concludes with a proposal to integrate the pragmatic aspect of instrumental theories in the communicative perspective.
