Las revistas técnicas y de arquitectura (1880-1945): Periodismo especializado y modernización en Argentina

Abstract

En Argentina, el desarrollo del periodismo especializado en arquitectura fue posible en el marco del proceso modernizador de fines del siglo XIX, que dio impulso a esta actividad ligada a la función de los técnicos e intelectuales en la construcción de consenso y hegemonía. La historia del desarrollo del periodismo en el caso argentino está profundamente ligada a los distintos “momentos” del proceso de modernización, en donde se combinan varios de sus principales factores (inmigración, urbanización, movilidad social, educación pública) en lo que podemos denominar la construcción de la demanda, es decir, la conformación de un público lector. El periodismo técnico surgirá a fines del siglo XIX con la creación de las instituciones de formación profesional vinculadas a la ingeniería y la arquitectura y alcanzará especificidad y variedad a medida que avanza el siglo XX, acompañando el crecimiento y consolidación del campo disciplinar de la arquitectura. En la actualidad estas publicaciones constituyen una valiosa fuente para abordar el estudio de la arquitectura del siglo XX y comprender la participación de los técnicos (ingenieros y arquitectos) en el proyecto modernizador.

In Argentina, the development of specialist journalism in architecture was possible in the frame of the modern process at the end of the 19th century, which gave impulse to this activity tied to the function of the technical personnel and intellectuals in the construction of consensus and hegemony. The history of the development of journalism in the Argentine case is deeply tied to the different “moments” of the process of modernization, where several are combined like principal factors (immigration, urbanization, Social mobility, and public education) in what we can name the construction of the demand, that is to say, the conformation of a reading public. Technical journalism arose at the end of the 19th century with the creation of the institutions of vocational training linked to engineering and architecture reached specificity and variety in the 20th century, accompanying the growth and consolidation of the discipline of the architecture. At present these publications constitute a valuable source to approach the study of architecture of the 20th century and to understand the participation of the technician (engineers and architects) in the modern project.
