Independencias, ciudadanía y exclusión racial en Argentina. Visiones de los siglos XIX, XX Y XXI

Abstract

El artículo indaga sobre el uso de la raza, como concepto y como tecnología de poder, en el discurso de formación de la ciudadanía en Argentina entre los siglos XIX y XXI. Primeramente, aborda la construcción ficcional del pueblo de la República emprendida por las elites decimonónicas y por la cultura científica de inicios del siglo XX, en cuya base se halla el mito de la Argentina blanca y la consecuente exclusión de las poblaciones indígenas y afrodescendientes del todo nacional. En segundo lugar, analiza los dispositivos estatales destinados a controlar estas poblaciones. Por último, contempla el proceso de re-etnización de la población argentina durante el transcurso del siglo XX.

The article discusses the use of race as a concept and as a technology of power in the discourse about citizenship in Argentina between the 19th and the 21st centuries. Firstly, we focus on the fictional construction of «the people of the Republic» made by the nineteenth century elites and by the scientific culture at the early twentieth century, on the basis of which is the myth of white Argentina and its consequences: the exclusion of indigenous and afro-descendants populations of the national whole. Secondly, we analyze the State mechanisms to control these populations. Finally, we analyze the process of re-ethnization of the Argentine population during twentieth century.
