The following article is not about discovering which thinker motivated Carl Schmitt to write The Tyranny of Values, but to analyze the aspects in the private edition from 1959, the Spanish edition from 1961 and the 1967 introduction. The point of the article implies focusing on one of the author´s first works. It also argues that the Schmittian criticism is directed towards German jurisprudence. From this point of view, Schmitt started getting more interested in the how of the decision, than in justifying its importance. This leads to search the motive for which, to Schmitt, the tyranny of values takes place in a democratic-liberal context, and not in a totalitarian one.
