Un monumento para las mujeres de la patria: movimientos femeninos, arte y memoria en la ciudad de Buenos Aires de principios del siglo XX

Abstract

Uno de los temas más intensamente abordados en las artes, las letras y la historia del período finisecular fue el referido a la actividad y hazañas de las mujeres en Argentina durante los años inmediatamente posteriores a la Revolución. A partir de los estudios del historiador Adolfo Pedro Carranza, un grupo femenino, la Asociación Pro Patria de Señoritas, encabezó la iniciativa de erigir un monumento a la memoria de las llamadas “patricias argentinas”. Este artículo analiza los debates y las derivas de este homenaje nunca concretado, situándolos en el contexto de las primeras asociaciones femeninas y feministas en Argentina.

One of the most intensely discussed topics in the arts, literature, and history of the fin- de-siècle period was that related to the activity and achievements of the women in Argentina during the years that followed the Revolution. Inspired by the historical studies of Adolfo Pedro Carranza, a women’s group, the Asociación Pro Patria de Señoritas, led the initiative to erect a monument to the memory of the so-called “Argentine patrician women”. This article analyzes the debates and the processes of this never-materialized tribute, placing them in the context of the first female and feminist organizations in Argentina.
