Aproximaciones a la teoría sociológica de Georg Simmel en Über sociale Differenzierung

Abstract

En las discusiones de la teoría de Georg Simmel recibió especial atención la kleine y la große Soziologie. En contraste, Über sociale Differenzierung (Simmel, 1989 [1890]), el primer escrito sociológico del pensador alemán, fue poco debatido por sus intérpretes. Este texto, que constituye un anticipo de los análisis posteriores que presenta Soziologie (Simmel, 2014 [1908]) y Grundfragen der Soziologie (Simmel, 2003 [1917]), se caracteriza por una impronta particular: el evolucionismo. El propósito de este artículo es esbozar algunas reflexiones introductorias a esta obra de la cual, quien suscribe, fue traductor para la versión castellana. En primer lugar, se abordarán algunas cuestiones epistemológicas de los comienzos de la sociología de Simmel; en segundo lugar, mostraremos el lugar de la teoría evolucionista en esta etapa de su pensamiento; y, finalmente, realizaremos un comentario del problema central de la teoría simmeliana de la diferenciación, o sea, el surgimiento de la individualidad en la modernidad.

In the discussions of Georg Simmel’s theory, the “kleine” and “große Soziologie” received special attention. In contrast, Über sociale Differenzierung (Simmel, 1989), the first sociological writing of the German thinker, was merely considered by his interpreters. This text, which anticipates subsequent analyses presented in Soziologie (Simmel, 2014) and Grundfragen der Soziologie (Simmel, 2003), has evolutionism as its special stamp. The aim of this article is to draft some introductory reflections on this work, of which, he who subscribes this article, was its translator into the Spanish version. Firstly, we will focus on some epistemological problems of Simmel’s sociological beginnings; secondly, we will show the place of evolutionism in this phase of his thinking and finally, we will deal with the main problem of Simmel’s theory on social differentiation, i.e. the emergence of individuality in Modernity
