Orden cósmico, roles de género y relaciones interétnicas en la mitología tehuelche

Abstract

En este trabajo nos proponemos estudiar determinados aspectos de la mitología tehuelche meridional en los cuales los animales tienen un papel fundamental en el origen de las pautas culturales y las características del cambio cultural. Nos interesa analizar aquellos relatos míticos que dan cuenta de la relación entre el orden cósmico y la vida cotidiana (duración de las estaciones, origen del fuego, y origen de las pautas de cocina), los roles de género (actividades que la cultura adjudicaba a varones y mujeres) y las relaciones interétnicas (relaciones entre tehuelches / mapuche y entre tehuelche / blancos). Estos mitos pertenecen a la narrativa oral pero han sido compilados en diferentes corpus documentales; los más consultados son los dados a conocer por Llaras Samitier (1950) y por Bórmida y Siffredi (1969-70). Para realizar este trabajo utilizaremos este material como así también compilaciones anteriores y posteriores. Además incluiremos textos recopilados por nosotros entre tehuelches de la Reserva Quilchamal o del Chalía. La lengua tehuelche sufre un rápido proceso de desaparición, la cultura se tuvo que transformar rápidamente para responder a un mundo en el que no hay lugar para cazadores, pero los mitos aun nos ofrecen una oportunidad de adentrarnos en este universo que el cual hay muchas reflexiones sobre la vida, la organización social, las cuestiones de género y su ubicación en el espacio circundante y en el cósmico.

In this paper we mean to study certain aspects of Tehuelche mythology in which animals have a very important place in the origin of the cultural rules and the characteristics of the cultural change. We are interested in analyzing those mythic tales which tell of the relationship between the cosmic order and everyday life (duration of the seasons, origin of fire and origin of cooking principles), role gender (activities which were culturally considered to be proper of men or women) and interethnic relationships (Tehuelche/ Mapuche and Tehuelche / white relationships). These myths are part of the oral narrative but they have been collected in different documentary corpus; the most widely consulted are those published by Llaras Samitier (1950) and by Bórmida and Siffredi (1969-70). To carry out this work we will use these material as well as previous and subsequent compilations. We will also include texts collected by us among Tehuelche Indians from the Reserva Quilchamal and the Reserva del Chalia. The Tehuelche language suffers a quick process of vanishing, culture has been forced to adapt quickly in a world where there is no place for hunters, but myths still give us an opportunity to go further into this universe in which there are reflections on life, social organization, gender issues and their position in their surroundings and in the cosmos.
