El sentido común en la teoría del Estado en Antonio Gramsci. Reflexiones con vistas al porvenir sudamericano

Abstract

De cara a las transformaciones recientes en la política sudamericana, interesa reflexionar críticamente sobre la relación entre sentido común y ética estatal. A estos efectos, la obra de Antonio Gramsci adquiere singular relevancia. Es que la reforma intelectual y moral que él promueve supone precisamente la crítica del sentido común. Esta crítica no equivale a un rechazo en bloque, sino a una elaboración dialéctica, que permita superar las tensiones inherentes al fenómeno. En este artículo, estas tensiones se identifican con tres problemas distinguibles pero articulados: el desarreglo de la teoría y la práctica, la disociación de lo alto y lo bajo, y la confusión de lo viejo y lo nuevo. Esta aproximación analítica a la concepción gramsciana del sentido común permite ganar claridad sobre la tarea de una reforma intelectual y moral en condiciones de proveer el fundamento ético del Estado. Sobre esta base, el artículo cierra con algunas reflexiones sobre el empleo de las nociones de “populismo” y de lo “nacional-popular” en el discurso público sudamericano.

Confronted with the recent changes in South American politics, this article aims at providing a critical reflection upon the relation between state and common sense. To this effect the work of Antonio Gramsci gains particular relevance. In fact, the intellectual and moral reform promoted by Gramsci supposes the critic of common sense. This critic consists not of a massive refusal, but of a dialectical work, aimed at overcoming the tensions inherent to the phenomenon. This article identifies these tensions with three distinguishable but nonetheless articulated problems: the disarrangement of theory and practice, the dissociation of the high and the low, and the confusion of the old and the new. This analytical approach to the Gramscian conception of common sense allows to clarify the task of an intellectual and moral reform aimed at providing the ethical foundation of the state. On this basis, the article ends with some reflections on the use of the notions of "populism" and of the "national-popular" in current South American public debate.
