Una cristalina muralla de hielo: La resistencia antidariana en España

Abstract

Revisamos aquí la ola de resistencias que cosechó Darío entre figuras emblemáticas de la literatura peninsular, desde el fin de siglo hasta la vanguardia. Mucho se ha estudiado sobre su favorable impacto en los jóvenes poetas de las primeras décadas del siglo XX (Juan Ramón Jiménez, los hermanos Machado, Valle Inclán, Salinas, Lorca entre otros), pero aquí nos interesa ahondar en el frente adverso que tuvo que afrontar. Si bien los juicios de Clarín han sido extensamente citados como el primer brote antimodernista español, figuras claves como Unamuno primero y Cernuda después colaboraron a consolidar varios tópicos como el de galicismo mental, el lenguaje extranjerizante, la inmoralidad e irreverencia ante los valores castizos, a menudo encubriendo un racismo descalificador por medio del mote de “indio” o “negro”.

We focus here the wave of resistance that Dario had to deal with from emblematic figures of Spanish literature, since the end of the century to some avant-garde poets. Much has been studied about his important influence on young Spanish poets of the first decades of Twentieth Century (Juan Ramón Jiménez, Valle Inclán, the Machado brothers, Lorca, Salinas, among others), but here we want to analize the adverse front he had to face in Spain. While Clarín’s judgements have been widely cited as the first Spanish anti-modernist outbreak, key figures such as Unamuno and Cernuda consolidated various topics like mental gallicism, empty formalism or disqualifying racism with the nickname of “indian” and “black”.
