Teorías de organización y procesamiento de la Memoria Semántica

Abstract

El objetivo de este artículo es hacer una revisión de los diferentes modelos y las principales teorías sobre la organización y el funcionamiento de la memoria semántica. Múltiples avances, en lo que respecta a la organización de conceptos concretos, se deben a los modelos que han sido postulados desde la Psicología Cognitiva y la Neuropsicología Cognitiva. Actualmente el debate sigue abierto a discusión y a la evidencia obtenida de los datos conductuales de desempeño en sujetos sanos y pacientes con lesiones cerebrales adquiridas, se les suma la información de las posibles áreas de procesamiento cerebral gracias al aporte de las nuevas técnicas de imagen. Existe cada vez un mayor consenso acerca de una organización en función de propiedades, rasgos o atributos semánticos. Asimismo, las áreas que sustentan la percepción y la acción se superpondrían con las áreas que representan conceptos. Aún resta identificar cuáles serían los principales atributos que organizan y sustentan los conceptos que nuestro pensamiento utiliza.

The aim of this paper is to review different models and the main theories that describe the way Semantic Memory is organized. With regard to the organization of concrete concepts is possible to observe multiple progresses related with the models that have been postulated by Cognitive Psychology and Cognitive Neuropsychology. However the debate is still open to discussion because behavioral performance of healthy subjects and patients with acquired brain injury has brought evidences of its organization. Moreover, the new images techniques developed offer information about possible areas of the brain which are involved. Whenever there are more consensuses about a possible semantic organization in terms of properties, features or semantic attributes. Also, the neural areas that support perception and action would be overlapped with those areas that represent concepts. It remains to identify what would be the main attributes that organize and support the concepts that we used in our thinking.
