Agricultura familiar y sus principales dimensiones: la pampeanización del término

Abstract

El artículo busca interpretar al término agricultura familiar desde tres dimensiones que son vinculantes y que buscan abarcar la complejidad del término: la dimensión académico-científica, la técnico-operativa y la político-epistemológica. El análisis de manera crítica de estas tres dimensiones pone énfasis en la percepción controversial sobre categorías como minifundista, campesino, pequeño productor, empresa familiar y farmer, que de una u otra forma constituyen la base de esta nueva categoría. En vinculación a ello se examinará los recientes intentos de cuantificación de la agricultura familiar en Argentina. Finalmente, el artículo tratará de mostrar la heterogeneidad presente tanto en el interior de la agricultura familiar como también en el espacio rural argentino y su relación con las preocupaciones conceptuales en cada región. Para ello se realizará una breve comparación entre la región más rica de Argentina (la región pampeana) y una de las regiones más pobres (el noroeste argentino). A modo de cierre, se presentará algunas implicancias conceptuales, metodológicas y políticas que a juicio del autor resultan polémicas y que invitan a seguir pensando en el término agricultura familiar como una expresión rica y desestructurante en el marco del actual modelo de desarrollo agrario.

The article tries to explain the meaning of “family farming” from three dimensions that are linked together and take into account the complexity of the term: the academic-scientific dimension, the technical-operational dimension and the political-epistemological dimension. The analysis of the three dimensions emphasizes the controversial perception of categories such as the small landowner, the peasant, the small farmer, and the farming family business, which one way or the other are the basis of this new category. In connection with the latter, recent attempts to quantify farming family business in Argentina will be discussed. Finally, the article will attempt to show the heterogeneity present both in the family farming business as well as in leading rural enterprises in Argentina and the major concerns of each region. With that purpose, a brief comparison will be made between the richest agricultural part of Argentina (the “wet Pampas”) and one of the poorest ones (northwest Argentina). To conclude, some conceptual, methodological and political implications are highly controversial according to the author, and the term “family farming business” is food for thought, since it is a rich unstructured expression which falls within the current Argentine model of agricultural development.
