Análisis comparativo de la fecundidad del Sábalo Prochilodus lineatus en ambientes Lóticos y Lénticos de la Argentina

Abstract

Prochilodus lineatus es una especie de gran importancia para la pesca comercial y de subsistencia. Los estudios de biología reproductiva para esta especie migratoria son relevantes a fin de determinar planes de manejos futuros en los distintos ambientes. El sábalo posee una alta fecundidad con periodo reproductivo extenso (octubre a enero). El objetivo del estudio fue analizar la variación de la fecundidad en ambientes limnológicamente diferentes, comparándose tres sitios: los ríos Bermejo (Salta) y Paraná medio (Entre Ríos) y el embalse El Tunal (Salta) en el noroeste argentino. Se comparó la fecundidad para establecer diferencias entre sitios mediante un ANCOVA, considerando como variable independiente la longitud estándar. Existe una relación lineal significativa entre la fecundidad y la longitud estándar, hallándose diferencias significativas entre sitios (F=69,93,gl=2,100; p<0,0001). La fecundidad media del embalse fue significativamente mayor que la de ambos ríos. Esta diferencia puede atribuirse a las diferencias en disponibilidad de nutrientes en los cuerpos de agua y al comportamiento diferencial de la especie en ríos y embalses.

Prochilodus lineatus is an important species for commercial and subsistence fisheries. Studies of the reproductive biology of this migratory species are relevant in order to determine future managing plans in different environments. The species possesses a high fecundity with reproductive extensive period (October to January). The objective of the study was to compare the variation in the fecundity between three different environments, the Rivers Bermejo (Salta) and Paraná medio (Entre Ríos) and an El Tunal (Salta) dam in the Argentine northwest. To compare the fecundity to establish differences between places we realized an ANCOVA, considering like independent variable the standard length. There is a linear significant relation between the fecundity and the standard length, was found. Significant differences between sites (F=69,93,df=2,100; p <0, 0001) were also evident. The average fecundity in fish of the dam El Tunal was significantly higher than that of sábalos in both rivers. This difference can be explained by the differences in the availability of nutrients between the water bodies and by the differential behavior of the species in rivers and reservoirs.
