Los significados contrapuestos del bienestar. De la felicidad al wellness

Abstract

En este artículo, esbozamos una genealogía del concepto de bienestar. Aunque su relación con la política estatal es parte de su significación corriente, el concepto se nutre de fuentes más antiguas. Nos valdremos de las constituciones de los Estados modernos, que ofrecen antecedentes para pensar las relaciones entre el Estado, la felicidad, el bienestar y el desarrollo, tomando una pequeña muestra de textos de distintas décadas. También establecemos un paralelo con la dinámica que lleva del ?poder? al ?empoderamiento? para mostrar en sentido general la tendencia subjetivizante. El propósito de esta indagación es interpretar el devenir contemporáneo del término bienestar, redefinido bajo el paradigma individualista del wellness.

In this article, we outline a genealogy of the concept of wellbeing. Although its relationship with the State policy is part of its current significance, the concept draws on older sources. We use the constitutions of modern States, which offer records to think about the relationships between the State, happiness, well-being and development. We analyze a small sample of texts from different decades. We also establish a parallel with the dynamic that leads from "power" to "empowerment" to show, in a general sense, the subjectivist trend. The aim of this inquiry is to understand the contemporary evolution of the term welfare, as it is redefined under the individualist paradigm of wellness.
