We studied the effect of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) on the hydrolysis of transition metal salts in basic medium. The studies were carried out in 10−2 M β-CD and/or 10−2 M NaOH solution. The results showed that, under different conditions, the presence of β-CD can prevent the hydrolysis and subsequent precipitation of various metal salts of the first transition series. Iron and copper salts showed the best response under the conditions studied. Periodic behaviour was not observed.
