El acta inaugural del Instituto Superior de Agronomía y Veterinaria

Abstract

Se da a conocer el texto y la identidad de los firmantes del acta rubricada en ocasión de la inauguracióndel Instituto Superior de Agronomía y Veterinaria, una dependencia del entonces Ministerio de Agriculturade la Nación (ISAV) de la cual la actual Facultad de Agronomía de la U.B.A. (FAUBA) es derivadadirecta. El análisis del documento, exhibido por décadas en el Decanato de la FAUBA pero nunca examinadoen detalle hasta ahora, permite identificar al núcleo de la concurrencia al acto inaugural, ocurridoel 25 de septiembre de 1904. La mayoría de los 39 firmantes pertenecían al grupo organizador del ISAV(funcionarios de alto rango, integrantes del Ministerio de Agricultura de nivel intermedio, y profesoresdel instituto), y al gobierno local, pero también se hallaban presentes individuos que se vincularían másfuertemente con el ISAV en el futuro, y personas relacionadas, más que con el naciente instituto, conel rector Pedro N. Arata. La difusión del documento puede contribuir a resolver las identidades que seesconden tras unas pocas firmas no descifradas y, en consecuencia, a valorar mejor su presencia.Palabras clave: historia, Ministerio de Agricultura, Universidad de Buenos Aires, educación superior.

I present the contents of the founding charter of the Instituto Superior de Agronomía y Veterinaria (ISAV), signed during the inauguration ceremony on 25th September 1904, as well as the identity of its signatories. The ISAV was first created as a dependency of Argentina’s Ministry of Agriculture and it is the predecessor of the present day Facultad de Agronomía of the Universidad de Buenos Aires (FAUBA). The document, kept for decades in the Dean’s office at the FAUBA but never studied in detail until now, helps identify the key attendees of the inaugural ceremony. Most of the thirty-nine signatories were either part of the ISAV’s organization team (high-ranking officials, Ministry of Agriculture mid-level officials and professors of the Institute) or members of the local Government. Other attendees would go on to establish stronger ties with the ISAV, whilst some had previous ties to Pedro N. Arata, Head of the Institute, rather than to the ISAV itself. The publication of this document may help decipher a few illegible signatures and, therefore, assign them their proper relevance.
