Del Laboratorio a la Asistencia: Instalación de una Cámara Gesell para evaluar el nivel cognoscitivo alcanzado en niños pequeños

Abstract

El objetivo de esta línea de investigación, es incluir el área de la inteligencia sensoriomotriz en la evaluación del desarrollo psicomotor de niños menores de 2 años. Dado que no existía en nuestro país un instrumento de evaluación que pudiese valorar el desarrollo cognoscitivo de niños menores de 2 años, se elaboró un instrumento estandarizado para el diagnóstico del desarrollo intelectual de bebés argentinos de 6 a 24 meses denominado Escala Argentina de Inteligencia Sensoriomotriz (E.A.I.S). Dada la demanda de los padres de querer conocer el desarrollo intelectual de sus bebes, y de profesionales que deseaban capacitarse en la administración de la EAIS, se decidió tener una Camara Gesell que permitiese responder a ambas demandas.. Desde septiembre del 2003 a diciembre del 2008, concurrieron al Servicio Cognoscitivo para bebes 499 niños .Entre 6 a 24 meses fueron evaluados 395 niños : el 75,7% se ubicaron en percentiles normales, el 7,8% de los bebes obtuvieron percentiles de retraso, y el 16,5% se ubicaron en percentiles de riesgo. Se ha realizado el seguimiento a 111 bebes : 88 bebés (79.3%) han avanzado en los estadios esperables para su edad. 23 bebes no lo lograron y fueron derivados a diferentes servicios.

This line of research aims to include the area of sensory motor intelligence in the assessment of psychomotor development in infants under the age of 2 years old. Due to the fact that in Argentina an instrument that allows the assessment of the cognitive development in infants under 2 years old does not exist, a standardized instrument for the diagnosis of the intellectual development of Argentinean babies form 6 to 24 months old, was created. The name of the created instrument is Argentinean Scale of Sensory motor Intelligence (EAIS). The parental request for information about the intellectual development of their babies, and the request from professionals who wanted to learn and train in the administration of the EAIS, led us to start a Gesell Dome in order to response to both requests. Since September 2003 to December 2008, 499 infants were assessed in the Cognitive Service. 395 infants between 6 and 24 months old were assessed: 75% obtained results corresponding to normal percentiles, 7.8% of the assessed babies obtained results corresponding to percentiles that indicate delayed, and 16.5% obtained results of percentiles that indicate risk. A follow up study was also conducted in 111 babies: 88 babies (79.3%) have advanced into expected stages for their age. 23 babies did not advanced and were consequently derived to different services.
