Acerca de la literatura infantil y su posicionamiento en el campo literario argentino

Abstract

Desde sus orígenes la literatura infantil en Argentina fue considerada como menor dentro del sistema literario. Este punto de vista surge no sólo de la percepción del destinatario, sino también de la ambigüedad del término infantil. Por un lado, una serie de denominaciones y oposiciones recorren el campo literario para niños desde sus inicios. Por otro, la participación de autores y mediadores entre la literatura y los niños contribuyeron a la discusión, como también a la formación del corpus literario y crítico. En este trabajo nos proponemos recorrer este tema de debate en una selección de ensayos de autores del campo publicados entre los años setenta y los noventa. El objetivo es considerar los argumentos expuestos en la crítica y determinar qué sentido le atribuyen a lo infantil los autores de textos para niños y en qué medida esos argumentos contribuye a asumir un punto de vista representativo del período estudiado.Durante los años setenta, cuando empieza a definirse la identidad de la literatura argentina para niños, irrumpe la dictadura militar y la evolución del campo se retrasa. Éste se reorganiza a mediados de los ochenta con la recuperación de la democracia, para operar en adelante por desplazamiento más allá de las oposiciones iniciales. El campo se consolida durante los noventa y continúa en crecimiento con el apoyo editorial, la propuesta directa a la imaginación, el interés por la formación de lectores y la liberación de la mirada paternalista. En este recorrido se suman otros temas y actores, como los ilustradores, que contribuyeron a la conformación del campo infantil.

Since its origins children's literature in Argentina was considered “minor” within the literary domain. This point of view arose not only from the recipient’s perception, but also from the ambiguity of the term children’s. On the one hand, a series of name and oppositions covered the field of literature for children since its beginning. On the other hand, the participations of authors and mediators between literature and children contributed to the discussion, as well as the formation and critic corpus. In this paper we propose to explore this topic of debate in a selection of essays from authors in the field published between seventies and the nineties. The aim is to consider the arguments expressed by the critics and determine which sense is attributed to children’s texts by their authors and to what extent these arguments contribute to take a representative view of the studied period. During the seventies, when the identity of Argentinean children’s literature began to define, the military dictatorship burst in and the evolution of the field was delayed. It was reorganized in the mid-eighties with the return of democracy, to operate from that moment onwards by displacement beyond the initial opposition. The field was consolidated during the nineties and continues to grow with the editorial support, the direct proposal to the imagination, the interest in reading education and the freedom from the paternalistic gaze. On this tour other issues and actors are included, such as the illustrators, who contributed to the conformation of children’s field.
