Conmemorar pasados diversos: Procesos de visibilización y memorias afro en Argentina

Abstract

Este artículo se inscribe dentro de un trabajo de investigación tendiente a indagar sobre la relación entre las nuevas formas de visibilización de la población de origen africano en Argentina y los procesos de construcción de memorias subalternas. Con este objetivo, focaliza sobre las "memorias negras" en tanto procesos sociales que dan sentido al pasado y que se sitúan en los intersticios de la narrativa hegemónica de una nación blanca habilitando nuevas formas de identificación y pertenencia, a la vez que legitiman demandas y reclamos por derechos históricamente negados. Partiendo de la idea según la cual las memorias son productos cultural e históricamente situados, analizamos las conmemoraciones porque ofrecen una instancia privilegiada para la instalación, circulación y transmisión de significados y prácticas del pasado por parte de los diversos actores involucrados. Específicamente nos situamos etnográficamente sobre las ceremonias realizadas para conmemorar el Día Nacional del Afroargentino/a y de la cultura afro en Argentina celebrado desde 2013.

This article is a part of a research aimed at inquiring about the relation between the new ways of visibilization of the African origin population in Argentina and the construction process of the subalterns memories. For this purpose, it focuses on the “black memories” as social process that give sense to the past and that establish themselves in the hegemonic white narrative interstices allowing new ways of identification and senses of belonging, at the same time the black memories support claims for historically denied rights. Following the idea according to which memories are cultural and historically placed constructs, we focuse on the conmemorations because they offer a privileged instance for the installation, circulation and transmission of meanings and practices regarding the past on the part of the various actors involved. In particular we place our selves ethnographically in the ceremonias produced to conmemorate the Afroargentinian and Afro-culture National Day celebrated since 2013.
