El fin de la Inquisición en el Río de la Plata en tiempos de revolución y guerras de la independencia

Abstract

La crisis política española durante los primeros años del siglo XIX provocó reacciones diversas en todos los dominios americanos. Las provincias de Buenos Aires y Córdoba vieron en aquella situación la oportunidad de romper con el Antiguo Régimen y, por ende, con sus instituciones, en donde la Inquisición fue una de las más representativas. Acercarse al intento de la Asamblea Constituyente por desligar a las comisarías del tribunal de Lima permite conocer la realidad de aquellas provincias, tan poco conocida por la escasez de fuentes documentales

The Spanish political crisis at the beginning of the nineteenthcentury triggered diverse reactions in the American colonies. For many living in the provinces of Buenos Aires and Córdoba, the situation offered an opportunity to break with the Old Regime and its institutions. This included the Inquisition, which was one of the most emblematic. This article analyses the attempt of the Constitutional Assembly to separate the comisarías from the Lima Tribunal. By examining this conflict, it is possible to overcome the scarcity of documentary sources in order to better understand the realities of these provinces during the revolutionary era
